If the open system has been converted to a sealed system it will now be under 2/3 times as much pressure exposing weak corroding joints. What make and model of boiler do you have btw?

Just seen the other thread, you'll probably need a new heat exchanger as well.
Cheers. It's a greenstar ri (BG fitted). I've attached pics of boiler, tank and expansion valve.
Pressure has dropped from 1.5 to just under 1 in a couple of hours, and rads are all over the shop...some come hot, then 30 mins later are cold again. I'm at a total loss (have a 3 year old, a 1 year old and a high-pressure job...and this has been going on for over a month: 2 days with heating, 5 without...£475...3 days with...4 without...£220...1 day with...£60...3 without...£120...and so on). Wondering if I should get BG just to rip the whole lot out and start again.

If the system is full of sludge then the 4 year old heat exchanger will be and on this boiler a power flush won't clear it and if done badly will even make it worse. If the heat exchanger is blocked/ part blocked the boiler won't be providing enough heat load for the system.
Cheers Dave. I've now paid four different plumbers around a grand not to fix it. There's only so long you can go on forking out for 'could be this...maybe...£500 please'. At least with BG they come back, and prioritise us as we have kids. Its clear a good, honest and decent plumber is hard to come by...!

Chances are the system is full of sludge because a pipe is leaking somewhere. This was previously masked by the header tank topping the water up. Now it's sealed its highlighted the leak and probably made it worse.
BGs flush is guaranteed for the lifetime of your homecare cover, not the system.
Realistically the leak needs to be found first, then the system wants properly cleaning and balancing.

Yes, I agree that is the likely cause and the correct solution.
Because it has been leaking for some time then it is obviously somewhere where it can not be seen. Normally under the floors! That can be rather tedious but it is essential that it is found. That is the first priority!
I would not expect power flushing to be in itself effective at removing the hard deposits which have been formed. But I would expect that just chemical treatment with acids will do the job.
If I was tasked with dealing with it then I would be using acid chemicals to dissolve the hard sludge after the usual warnings that that can sometimes cause leaks on rads and valves. But unfortunately that is going to be the only way to treat it.
