Got a Powermax 155, and the hw flow has got very cool. The thermostatic blending valve is the main suspect, as it is leaking and the 'mix' pipe feels cool when water is run, despite the 'hot' input still being too hot to touch!

The question is: Does anyone know if you must use a genuine Baxi-Potterton part, or can you find another thermostatic valve to use as a substitute?

Any ideas where I can source this part, genuine or substitute and how much?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, ChrisR, but I did a search and didn't find the answer to MY question, that's why I posted!

I found someone offering to sell one, and details about the cost of the original part. But I asked if any other part could be substituted, and/or where one could buy the part.

Perhaps you could point me to the posting, if there is already one that I have missed, and that answers my query.

Thanks

Sorry to crowd your thread Archer, but a friend of mine has one of these also...actually it's a Powermax 140 and I think it is unvented. They have had it about a year and a half and I have told them that they should get it serviced even though there is no problem with it currently. Though they have rung various (CORGI reg) plumbers in the Yellow Pages there seems to be reluctance to want to service this boiler. The CORGI website was of little use. So does anyone know who can service Powermax boilers in the North West London area, please?

I have a Powermax 155 (horrible invention) and had to replace the blending valve on mine because it was leaking badly out of the control knob.

After many searching/phoning around Travis Perkins can supply them, cost me £63 for a replacement!

Before you go out and buy a replacement check if your valve has inline filters in the hot and cold inputs to the valve. It could be that the hot water filter in to the valve is extremely blocked.

Hope that helps.

Basstudio was spot on the money!!

I got a new blender valve from a Baxi stockist - they charged £48 - even though they quoted £61 over the phone. I dismantled the pipework and sure enough the hot feed pipe/filter was clagged up with limescale.

I replaced the valve, anyway, as it was leaking from the spindle.

Cleaned out the pipe and Hey Presto - hot water like never before!!!!!!!

How come no-one else has ever mentioned this before? Everyone seems to talk of 'new blender valves' (at £80+fitting) or descaling (at £300 a throw) OR even refers to old posts (CHRISR).
