Pressing 5 or 9 what effect

We are being inundated by PPI touts, who invite you to presss 5 on the keypad to proceed with the claim, or press 9 to be removed from the data base, what effect would pressing these numbers have?

It tells them that the phone line is active, and you are alive, and you are fool enough to obey instructions by a crook.

So you are moved up the priority list as a potential mug to try with more scams.

Get Caller Display and let the overseas or number-witheld calls go to answerphone.

Longer term it's worth signing up to the Telephone Preference Service at http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/index.html

Takes a while to have any effect but stops cold calling.

TPS has no effect on overseas calls, which is most of these crooks.

Hence my suggestion.

But I agree, sign up with TPS as well.
