Vokera Linea 28
I have a Vokera Linea 28 wall mounted combi boiler in my house. For about 12 months We’ve had a problem with pressure loss on the system. I’ve had about 3-4 engineer visits to date and want to put this out to an expert community to diagnose a list of possible issues before I decide what to do further.
Firstly, the boiler is circa 8 years old with a new gas solenoid valve and new retrofitted expansion vessel so I've spent a bit already and I'm keen to avoid putting good money after bad.
Problem History
The pressure loss historically was occurring, and beginning to increase the rate at which water top up through the quick fill loop was required to a point where I was unhappy. Initially twice / winter, to eventually every month then every use. Slowly, with every heating cycle this would drop on face value maginally with each prolonged heating cycle. Logic puts you towards a minor leak driven by hot pipes and expansion.
All radiators checked – no leaks. Bosses / radiator blanks tightened at top, no visible drips on either TRV’s or LSV’s. Engineer therefore deduced pressure loss was a failed expansion vessel. Soon tested and found to be wanting by a third party engineer, replaced vessel integral to boiler.
The pressure held for a short period after the new Vokera vessel was installed and its started to slowly drop off again. It may have happened sooner but I’ve not noticed it. I’m now at point in deciding what to do. Its currently loosing circa 1.5 bar to 0.5 bar over 3 months ot the point of fill.
The vessel replacement also replaced the combined pressure relief valve (I think). When the vessel failed, the boiler was operating on that hence the rapid and severe pressure loss at the end before action was taken.
There is now no discharge of hot water through this blow off valve implying that this is not the issue any more like there was previously, and the new vessel seems like its holding air and is charged.
I want to explore other potential issues. I have quite a lot of hot water dripping in my view my shower that has a thermostatic mixer. I want to know whether sealed heating systems can in any way pass water through the DHW system if e.g. the diverter valve does not seat properly? Is that possible?
I think I also hear a little drip out the heat exchanger now and again after a cycle albeit that could be boiler cooling down. No visible signs of any amount of water there.
AAV makes a little quiet whilst now and again – unsure if its that. Please help everyone before I instruct another visit and more £££ laid out.
Thanks,
