serviced a ideal mexico floor standing boiler today, it was ketteling when working sounded like the the heat exchanger was scaled, when i turned the temp down to stop the boiler working the pump stopped, read the manual and theres nothing about pump over run, does this boiler need it, tried ringing ideal, what a waste of time and money, and advise please,

No pump over run on floor standing model, are you gas safe registred, put some sentinel x200 in

You turned the temp down on the room stat when the pump stopped correct? , adjusting the temp on boiler stat will have no bearing on the pump , unless of course the pump has been wired across the boiler stat. 
Stick some fairy liquid in the system , although some will say it will cause the soldered joints to leak.

its only 3 years old they have a cast aluminium heat exchanger not the old cast iron one, which is why a fort it needed pump over run,

The Mexico is just an Icos inside a floor mounted case. The Icos didn't have a pump over run either.
