Hi again,

Q1: Is the thermistor mentioned below (Potterton Performa 28i - system was "humming" at 4am) the same thing as the "thermostatic sensor" of my Baxi Solo 3 PF?

Q2: And is it also the same thing as its "integral frost-stat"?

This is exactly what the problem was. This switching problem only occured when the boiler was in pre-heat mode. Two thermisors were replaced, which required a small amount of draining-off water from the boiler as one of the thermisors was on a pipe containing water.
