Hi

A friend had radiators installed about 12 years ago, however they did not have Thermostatic Radiator Valves installed on any of them.

The rads are roasting hot, however i cannot turn the heat down. I have tried setting the temperature dial on the boiler to zero, but the rads are still roasting hot.

Bioiler is Potterton Puma. Could it be posisble that the temprature sensor/themostat in the boiler is not working?

Any ideas what could be causing this?

It could well be a problem with the boiler stat, which your friend should get looked at by an RGI.

Does the installation have an air temperature thermostat elsewhere in the house that you can adjust? If not, it might pay to fit one. It wont allow the temperature of each room to be controlled individually, but it will at least give some form of control, the system will be cheaper to run, and it will be significantly less hassle than fitting TRVs to each rad.

That's not to say that a thermostat is replacement for having TRVs fitted, as ideally you would have both, but I appreciate that cost may be an issue.
