Hi there i am widening a door opening and im using a railway sleeper as a lintel and would like to know what i should cover it with before it gets plastered over just in case the tar comes through the plaster cheers.

Having just burnt an old railway sleeper that had served its purpose well over the last 20 years, IMO you should not have the creasote impregnated monsters anywhere near the inside of a house.

Why are you using a railway sleeper when a lintel will be simpler, cheaper and ...er.... suitable?
