I have a RCD double socket in my garage which no longer appears to be working. The TEST button cannot be depressed, but when I hold the ON button the power is working, but as soon as I release my finger the button pops back and power cuts off.
I believe the rcd is wired directly back to the new fuse box (installed 5 years ago), but none of the fuses tripped on that.
I have a tumble dryer, freezer and radio connected to the socket. I have tried all these appliances separately and they all work. As far as I know no appliances, lights etc have failed.
I'm not sure of the socket make but it is labelled 'non-latching rcd socket rated tripping current 30ma'. It was installed about 5 years ago and has worked as required up until now.
Can anyone give me a bit of advice - is the socket broken, or is there an appliance which has caused the trip? I'm not at all electrically minded - is this a time to call an electrician?
