RCD testing on lighting circuit

Whats the best method for this? I've been lashing in a socket outlet on to a lighting point and plugging the tester into that.

Use a proper tester with test leads.
Test the RCD at the CU in isolation.

My tester only came with a plug lead, or i could use the lead from my loop tester but only the earth lead can have a croc clip on it, making it pretty awkward to carry out test.

Not knowing what make or wether they are compatable makes it impossible to say.
Have you looked to see if you can buy a test lead set?

Remember that you are testing the RCD - not the circuit.
So unless its a dedicated RCBO protected circuit use the plug in adapter on the socket circuit covered by the RCD - if its a split board you do have one socket circuit on each side don't you?

or if not use one of these at the lighting point.
