Hi All,

Does anybody know whether you can buy recessed smoke and heat detectors? i.e. so they are hidden away flush with the ceiling.

I am obviously aware they don't want to be 'hidden' to such an extent where this has a detrimental effect on it's operation, but wondered if any were available.

Some people think they look quite ugly.... although I'm not one of them!

Cheers

They depend on some of the air moving across the ceilling to be able to flow freely through them in order to carry smoke particles into the detection chamber, if they are recessed this air flow is not going to happen.

There are "concealed" smoke detection systems where fans draw air from rooms and pass it through detection systems. Expensive and require standby power sources for the fan(s). Not suitable for domestic properties,
