I'm sure this has been asked before but what happens if I put red diesel in my oil boiler-will it soot up? will it work? What would be a red diesel/kerosene ratio which would be ok without problems?

It will soot up really very badly, the correct ratio of red diesel:kerosene is 0:100%

Not ONLY will it soot up, it MAY cause a lot of damage, MOST boilers are only designed to run on C28 (Kerosene) as it is thinner than D32 (Gas Oil)
not only that IF you run the boiler on D32 without increasing the Pump pressure it wont atomise the fuel as a rule of thumb the Minimum required Pump pressure is about 145psi (10bar)
