I am looking for an alternative to the red engineering bricks my builder wants to put down as the first couple of courses. The other bricks are buff coloured and the bright red bricks stand out too much.
As said Staffy blues are as widely available as reds. You can also get a smooth brown engineering brick but is not as common.
There are many suitable bricks available for below DPC application but it may take a bit of research (FFL ratings etc) or a competent brick merchant, to sort it out.
You want an F2 durability rated brick below DPC which usually has a water absorption of below 7%. You can get some nice facing brick which meet the F2 durability. I used Ibstock Etruria for my extension above and below DPC and they look great.
