removing paint from beams

Hi,

I have exposed beams in my living room and kitchen. The previous owner painted these but I would like to strip them back to the wood and varnish them.

What would be the best method of doing this? Nitromose has been mentioned but I understand that this is strong stuff and I don't want to damage the beams. Sanding them has also been suggested.

i done a job like early on, in the year, i just used some really course sandpaper, with nitromores you will have to burn of each layer of paint, i would just get a little palm sander and just use that
