I have a slate roof with dormers. the flashing has been repaired with flash band etc and I was looking to remove and replace with new lead flashings [i hVe had a few leaks]. A few roofers have had a look and said this would be a huge job and that an alternative would be to clean lead, remove the flashband and paint with 2 coats of aluminium paint.
Any views on use of aluminium paint in this way??

Aluminium paint is used as solar reflective coating on flat roofs and has minimal waterproofing qualities.

Acrypol or similar roofing compounds would be better suited but even then may only last a year or two.

Many thanks Alastair - I suspectd that may be the case. main problem with flashings is that the slates on vertical dormer would have to be stripped right back. However, I am worried that nhot doing this and going for any other [cheaper] option may be a false economy.

Yes it is pretty labour intensive, stripping the facings and dormer cheeks new lead etc, depends on the sizeof the slate but generally around a day to day and half per average dormer.

Mind get a few quotes from reputable firms.
