Hi, I cant seem to find a how to on this site so will ask the question here.

I am a moderate DIYer and want to remove a doorway and put an archway in, its an internal door, hollow to the touch so as far as am aware no brickwork involved. I have completed many projects with good success, I just need to be able to read up on how to do it?

Could anyone get me started on how to revise for a project such as this?

Have done 2 ex-door into archways opening in my hall area and you need to know if it's a load bearing wall but having said that I would put in a lintel anyway above & you can use plasterboard frame work or wire arch mesh which can be quite tricky to do

ps: make sure the lintel goes well past the opening.

Could you just use the existing opening, remove the frame, and fit some mesh plaster arches and plaster? Would this be too low?

Otherwise look in the building section for posts along the lines of creating new doorways or replacing lintels
