Replace RCCB for Tent Elctrics

I have a UK campsite tent electrics unit.
(like this one: http://www.camping-online.co.uk/mai...triple-mobile-mains-tent-electrics-unit.html)

It's stopped working. The switch on the RCCB just flicks down to off, even when the unit isn't plugged in. The power light never comes on.

I'm guessing its something mechanical gone wrong in the RCCB. Could it be anything else?

I'm struggling to find a replacement. Here's a photo:

Anyone know where I can get one? (for less than the cost of a complete new unit: £36). And is it just a case of fitting the new one exactly as the old one? (I've no electrical knowledge beyond common sense!)

Thanks

The RCCB feeds into the c10 mcb on the right.

Does the RCCB still not reset with the C10 in the off position (the position shown in the picture)?

If so, you need a new RCCB (=RCD)

EDIT: I would really suggest that you properly test the new RCD (especially a cheap, eBAY second hand one). Second hand ones are a unknown quantity, and you need a specialist RCD tester to make sure it will save your life on the camp site.

From the OP

I think the position of the MCB is immaterial

I'm reading

Isn't plugged in

to mean no power to the unit at all

If it was the other way round the Op would have said "with nothing plugged into it"

As others have said, the probability is that you've got a dead RCCB/RCD, which needs to be replaced.

However, just one thought. With some of those devices, once the 'switch has gone down', one has to firmly push it down as far as one can before it can be reset ('pushed back up') again.

Kind Regards, John

Thanks for all the helpful replies.

To clarify, "when the unit isn't plugged in" meant when the unit isn't plugged into the site socket, not when nothing is plugged into the unit.

Nothing can make the RCD reset - plugged in/not, C10 on/off, etc.

I've seen plenty of 30mA replacements, but my concern was that original RCD is "In 25A", but all the ones I've found are 63A or 80A - Does this make a difference?

Having said that, I've just googled again and found this one - is this what I need?

Thanks again for your help.

Any of those will be fine. The 25amps (or 80amp) refers to the maximum current that the unit can handle.

The current should be limited to 10amp as that is the size of the MCB protecting the load. So 25A or 80A makes no difference. The important part is the 30mA bit.

Note: TLC price, you'll need to add VAT & £4.50 for P&P./ This is often true of other on=line suppliers.
