Replacing an Myson imperial rad - size dilemma

Hi there

i have a rad in the kitchen which is a Myson imperial ( 19 inches wide ( length) by 30 inches high . ( see pictures). The whole house has these. I want to replace this rad that has been in place for 26 years as its rusting. My dilemma is because of he location of the rad, there is no room for a 500 mm length rad and i’m worried a 400mm would look rubbish and require alot of pipe adjustment. I cannot pull the floor up as its continuous throughout each room One of the reasons aswell for wanting to replace this rad is because i feel it is not powerful enough for the kitchen . Its the most cold room in the house due to north east facing . I was thinking a 400mm double panel by 800mm but no option is a straight swap . Any advice appreciated. Even Myson doesn’t make this size anymore so i can’t replace like to for like

Hi,

For a start, I wouldn't worry about having a narrower radiator.
Tail extensions such as:

will give a good finish.

Adjustable sliding versions are available, but aren't as reliable as this cut to size type.

It may be worth checking specs with the supplier as it's a generic photo.

A type 22 rad (double panel, double convector) piped up with fittings, or an extension piece would be my choice This is how I do mine. It would involve a rad valve change from the type you have.View media item 39743

That looks smart. I think i’ll go with the 400mm length rad and the tails and new TRV’s . Thanks.

You have already complained about lack of heat output. So fitting a smaller rad will only make this worse.

A good solution in a kitchen is a fanned radiator which can give a much higher heat output than a small rad.

There are also tall rads but be wary about fitting one of these because they never seem to me to give anything like their "rated" heat output. Possibly because much of the heat output is higher up.

I was thinking to offset the smaller reduction in length with a bigger height. Rad is 438x770 so was thinking either double panelled or taller - say 900
