I want to install a 10.8kw electric shower. The cable is 6mm², 8m long, surface mounted.
The consumer unit has a 30ma RCD and the shower is connected to a 50a MCB.
A ceiling mounted pull cord switch is fitted in the line.
Is this an acceptable arrangement or should I be looking at any improvements in the interests of safety. :?: .

While it will almost certainly work ok as described, 6mm cable will be marginally too thin , for the currents you require, particularly if it is not exposed to free air for its full length. See the links to the cable calculator in 'for reference'.
This is particularly true if for any of its length it either passes through insulation, or conduit or trunking (even surface mounted)
If there is room, given the short length involved, updating to 10mm would be preferable, as it reduces the risk if at a later date someone boxes in the cable, or adds insulation in the ceiling, and adds a safety factor to your system.

Thank you for the information. Safety first. Much appreciated. :)
