Hi all

I am moving to a new house in jan which has warm air heating. I have decided to have a central heating system fitted with a combi boiler. (worcester) the question i have is.... Is it common to have pipes running up the wall from the rads? and if so can they be sunk in to the wall?

Regards

Bobby

thanks for your rapid reply.... im not sure what you mean by cap them? i think the property does have concrete floors. The lounge has a gas fire at the moment built in to a flintstone style feature... it looks crap. anyway i plan to replace the existing fire with a wall mounted plasma style gas fire. The lounge and dining room are joined together with no seperating doors so i just dont know if i should have 1 rad in the lounge along with the gas fire and another rad in the dining room or scrap the rads and just have the gas fire. ? from a re sell point of view rads seem sensible.... i dunno !

One rad each end under the window would be normal style and work. I feel that decorative gas fires help a lot to sell a place, judging by the whinges I get from tenants where there's one fitted but not working.

Pipes dropping down are a necessary evil really. They can be a bit smaller, say 10mm, without problems, so can be in a shallow trunking in the corner. They can be buried but the plaster is likely to crack as it gets so hot.

If a solid wall then might try

single 25mm wide 20mm+ deep channel vertical from ceiling and finishing behind middle of rad. Run two 10mm plastic pipes in channel each curving off behind the rad to a rad. valve.

Cover channel with galvanised metal lath. Finish with as thick a layer of plaster as you can (I would go for about 9mm +) applied in 2 coats. First coat thick, last coat thin skim.
