Hi all,

I'm involved with a small club (with very limited funds) and our car park is currently a mixture of hardcore and mud which is making life very unpleasant for our members.

One of our members has suggested that he can get several loads of road planings delivered at a reasonable cost.

As I have no experiance of planings, my question is this....

If we get said planings and spread them over the car park, a) is it going to be worthwhile and b) do we need to do anything else to it (roll it / compact it etc)?

Thanks in advance & Merry Christmas....

I have used road plannings many times in the past for farm tracks and rough, temporary car parking areas. The first thing I would say is you get what you pay for..........if they did as good a job as asphalt then they would cost 20 times the price (you should aim to pay circa £8 a ton delivered). That said they do have their place.

You have indicated they are to be laid on a compacted hardcore base which is a good start. The plannings will certainly need to be compacted with a decent vibrating roller (a compacting plate would not do the job) .
Even after that you will find that they will lift especially where cars
turn.....they tend to offer little resistance to 4 by 4 vehicles.

If your on a tight budget and don't mind having to give the parking area a bit of attention including a good rolling every so often then I'd reccomend you give it a go.
