Roof replacement

I am having my tiled roof replaced entirely. It is a 1936 detached house with feather boarding under the tiles. Does the feather boarding have to be removed entirely before felt, laps and new tiles are fitted?

Thankyou for your reply, the buider quoting me says to remove which I thought was odd if there is nothing wrong with it. I must find out why he thinks that and whether it would be replaced with anything

Sometimes it is easier to remove the featheredge as if you counter batten and batten then you need to increase the height of the facia boards, and can also interfere with the junction with any other roofs or window details.

That ties in a bit with what the builder said so I guess that's makes sense as we face very very strong SW winds. Many Thanks

Get the specification for the re-roof in writing. If the builder/roofer is aware of the exposed high wind location then the specification needs to be up to those standards. An ordinary re-roof specification would not be acceptable.

I am sure the roofers here can point you in the right direction on what that entails
