I have asked the sparks for their advice. Now I would appreciate plumbers' advice too.

I am installing central heating in a 1978 Wimpey 2-bed terrace house. I have the ceiling down for joist repairs and rewiring. The ceiling/floor joists run 3.7m across the house and are 165mm deep. I propose running 15mm John Guest barrier pipes through the joists to feed 2 radiators and a towel rail. There are PVC electric cables running along some joists and I have moved these down as far as I can (50mm above the ceiling). Pipes and cables will only be crossing and not running parallel along the same joist.
  • What size holes should I drill for 15mm pipe?
What clearance should I leave between insulated pipes above and cable below?
Is a straight run of 5m OK or will it creak?
