Salus RT500RF Programmable Room Thermostat making high pitch

Hi can anyone help ??
I have a worcester bosch combi boiler that does not seem to be working. When i set a required temp on Salus thermostat, by increasing the temp button, the display shows the burner symbol but the boiler does not come on.
The thermostat seems to make a high pitched whine for a short period, the burner light stays on but no boiler.
Would this be a thermostat issue or boiler ? I can force heating on by holding the ladder button on the combi but the water temp keeps going up to 90degc, no hot water from tap during this but heating works...
