Sandy Grit residue on dishes

Can anyone explain to me why my dishes are left with a sandy grimy residue after my dishwasher cycle?

It's driving me bonkers! I have to hand-wash pratically all my glasses, cups, baby's bottles etc. afterwards.

As Breezer says, I've had the same problem with a certain brand of tablet.
But it's also worth thoroughly cleaning the filters etc, (mine are at the bottom of the machine on the inside). It should be described in your instruction book how to do this. I clean mine about once a month, but the instruction book says clean after each wash! You could also try the dishwasher cleaner tablets available at larger supermarkets.
