Hi all searched hi and low for some info on this issue but only seem to find help for when boiler not firing up at all.

The problem, although not a big problem, is when firing up the burner lights and then goes out straight away between 5 to 10 times before staying a light. This happens for both hot water and heating functions. So the system is still operational, just don't want these symptoms to lead to a major breakdown before the winter sets in.

Any help will be great cheers all

You don't see FAQ about this kind of problem because the site does not give advice on gas/combustion issues like that.

You will need to call a competent engineer to diagnose the problem. It could well be something simple that a proper service would have prevented. When was it last serviced?

Just to update everyone, had a little look at the boiler and after watching it firing up noticed the flames looked ok but gradually reduced and went out. Suspecting either gas supply issue or starvation of oxygen. Checked the flue outside and found a piece of wood had blow over and was slightly covering the flue. Once removed everything is now fine.

So if anyone in the future has this issue check the flue access is not restricted, this bit of advice comes for free.

I just wonder how much it would of cost a gas fitter to investigate and how many parts would have been replaced before the blockage would have been diagnosed

Just a thought

Part of fitting a boiler is to locate the flue where it is unobstructed.

It is difficult to imagine your situation where a piece of wood can be "blown across the flue".

It would have been discovered if you had bothered to get your boiler serviced!
