Saw blade diameter

Hey,

I recently got the Makita 5008MG 210mm circular saw, but am finding it nigh-on impossible to find blades for it (it came with a 16T blade).

They all seem to be 200mm or less and 216mm or more. No 210mm:

are just some examples. The first one is important as I want a blade for cutting MFC and triple chip are supposedly the dogs at this.

Is it that Makita labels it as 210mm but it's actually 216mm (similar to how bath dimensions are labelled)? Could I go up (216mm) or down (190mm or 200mm)?

Seems a bit odd that a brand like Makita would have such an unusual blade diameter.

Answer:

You may have to use a smaller blade B-09634 is a 250mm aluminium blade for mitre saw that will fit the MLS100.

FYI I found several 'other' blades but wrong bore size in each case and the one you suggest is also the wrong bore.

In any event, I wanted a MAKBLADE not some cheapo pattern one hence contacting MAKITA directly.

My post was aimed at The OP to highlight the fact that a smaller blade diameter may fit his Makita and do the job.

You weren't specific about the bore required, nor the brand, and I'm afraid my crystal ball is currently not working. A smaller blade would get the saw running, but would make the depth gauge inaccurate....

There are actually quite a few 210mm saws out there, e.g. Erbauer at Screwdup (horrid, but cheap), Silverline at ToolStation (even worse), plus some good brands, such as Freud, Bosch, Makita, etc all do 210mm x 30mm boe blades although you may need to buy a saw bore reduction washer to fit the blade (pennies, but the better blades supply them in any case). OK, so the selection isn't as good, but if you wanted cheap blades I'd have stuck with 190mm. I have similar "problems" with a 230mm Hilti rip saw - it just takes a bit more looking to find blades, that's all

BTW the 5008MG has quite a good rep over in the USA - size of a 190mm saw with approaching the depth of cut of a 235mm saw

I have to say I thought Silverline would be rubbish, but as they were the only easily available one for my saw, I gave them a go. Quite pleasantly surprised a nice clean cut.

Thanks. Can you confirm if any of them are Triple Chip, rather than Alternate Bevel etc., as I specifically asked for?

Triple Chip is a speciality blade.

Ignore that price! Got it for £24.

For anyone who wants to know, there's supposedly no cut quality difference between Trend Professional blades and Trend Craft Pro blades. The Professional blades "last longer and can be sharpened more times".

Yeah I think it's relatively new to the UK. The magnesium base is supposedly lighter and stronger. It's no heavier than the Erbauer 190mm it's replacing, which to be fair was a great saw for my hobbyist projects, but I'm hoping the Makita will help me go up a notch.
