it seems that lime scale seems to be a big problem with dhw plate exchangers. i wondering how do you recognise a scaled up exchanger, poor hotwater flow?, luke warm water? i would have though the scale would cause overheating and lockout boiler. would greatly appreciate any experience on recognising the sympthons ? cheers

On a correctly functioning boiler then lime scale is not a problem in the London area.

Even in the Reading or Bracknell areas where the water is very hard it still is not normally any problem.

There are a few boilers which dont properly control the temperature which sometimes get lime scale problems like the Worcester 24i but even that is quite rare.

It's not an issue for the heat source because the scale is deposited on the secondary side.

However, any DHW plate HEx where the local hardness exceeds 300ppm is likely to suffer from scale and need between a few and many replacements within the lifetime of a modern gas boiler.
