Shorten steel gas pipe without rethreading?

As you can see I have a 22mm gas pipe sticking out of the ground. Such is its height, and distance from the wall that I either need to cut a hole in the new kitchen cupboard to accommodate it, or get the pipe shortened. I imagine it could be done but would need a specialist to rethread it, equalling £££s. Is it possible/legal to have it cut shorter and then joined to 22mm copper by a compression fitting? I.e. less £££s charged by a fitter for a job taking less time. Reading on here it seems that compression is ok for gas as long as it is accessible. Does the void under a kitchen cupboard count as accessible? Cheers.

no nothing can be connected to that pipe other than threaded and if as I suspect that goes to your gas meter then only the transporter can work on that which they wont

It's got 15mm copper joined to it so it's clearly part of the internal gas carcass. Pretty straightforward for an RGI to cut and thread if they have the tools.

If its downstream of the meter then it isn't the gas transporters responsibility and a registered gas installer can work on it. I would think most domestic RGI's would only have hand tools for threading. Easy enough though it may raise a sweat in this heat. You may find you have to pay for 2 hours rather than 1.

My guess would be a cooker bayonet fitting or a hob. Maybe a heat only boiler. Looks like a 1/2" steel pipe coming out of the screed in a kitchen, not an incoming service pipe.

It splits: one branch connects to a gas hob, the other to a boiler.

there is a reducer - so either a 3/4" or 1".

EDIT: Having looked again, the photo is deceptive. It looks like a reducer because of the fittings.

The steel pipe is 22mm.

It is, because I measured it with a digital caliper. In fact it's 21.87mm.
