Shower trap... Sealing Compound?

Hi,

Installing a new shower trap, which suggest the use of "Sealing Compound"

What's that then

Get some 'plumbers mait' in there

Which bit is it saying you should seal? It doesn't matter if the flange on top leaks, it all goes down the hole.
I hate plumbers mait, useless muck!

[Bahco]

Plumbers mait = porcelain
Silicone = plastic baths etc
