hello all,
When fitting a bathroom sink, is it better to put sink onto pedestal first and then screw to the wall, and then screw on the trap?
Or is there an easier way? cheers

Also, does the wastepipe from bath leading to the trap have to be higher than the trap?, will you get away with pipe being a few centremetres above trap?

Depends what sort of "Basin" (not sink) you have. Many of the ones which come with instructions say the pedestal should not be used for supporting the basin  yes really!
If you have a basinm with BIG holes which take the special boplts with wide plastc washers built in, use the pedestal to get the height right. I usually put silicone between the pedestal and basin.
Put trap pon basin, loosely fix to wall, slide ped in, fix basin, squirt silicone.

If you have a nast basin with silly little holes for screws, expect them to break when you do the screws up. Either use special old fashioned brackets, or plenty of silicone to glue the basin to the wall.

Bath - depends which bit of the trap you're referring to. There shouldn't be any water laying in the bottom of the waste pipe, or it'll build up hair/soap goo and cause a blockage.

Thanks Chris,
you know when you say you use sillicone, do you mean that the basin is not supported by the pedestal, and the sillicone is just to hide the gap between pedestal and basin?

use silicone between the basin and ped....to sturdy it
also use silicone at the back of the basin where it meets the wall (all over blobs) this acts a bit like glue...it wont move once its gone off..
some folk do it that way..other dont..some plumbers i know just silicone and dont bother with screwing it !

The silicone will hold well, but if it's to tiles, the tiles might well come off the wall if you lean on the basin!

The basin often ends up touching the top of the ped, but if it's supporting it much it can make orrible noises when you lean on the basin!

I use plumbers mate on top of the pedestal, but finish with a smear of silicone.
