Hi,

Looking for a bit of help choosing lintels for above the windows of my extension.

The windows are 1200 wide and my supplier does lintels in multiples of 200mm for length (concrete 215x100mm ), so my choice would be 1400 or 1600.

It's a timberframe single storey extension and exterior block work of 100mm.

Favouring the 1600 myself but is this overkill with 200mm support either side or would 1400 be adequate?

I suppose I could cut the 1600 down to 1500!

Thanks

Go with a minimum of 150mm end bearing and you can't go wrong.

If you decide to use concrete then these can be easily cut.

By the way 1500mm lintels are readily available. They are sold in 150mm increments i.e. 750, 900, 1050, 1200, 1350, 1500..... etc

Cheers noseall, went for the 1600's in concrete.

Don't see any of the builders using anything other than concrete lintels in the area so I'll do as they do and keep the BCO happy :)

The pre-cast supplier here has pretty much cornered the market for these items and only makes them in increments of 200mm and sills in increments of 100mm.

Thanks again
