slate roof leak question

Hi.
Converted attic space. Leak in the corner of the room approx where the X is on the photos. Annoying sporadic leak.

Bloke came round and said it was probably the wind blowing rain up under the tiles. Obvious problem would be where the corner of the slate is missing in the third photo but would this be to far away from the X for it to be the source of the leak?

There's no marking on the inside of the sloped roof, just in the corner where it meets the wall. I guess it could be running down from anywhere above this spot?

Would your first port of call be to realign any wonky tiles and replace any broken ones above the X?

Are these leaks common on gable ends?

I would open the area up for inspection, hopefully see the problem then put it back together, only better.

and one of side on of that verge there could be a couple of things wrong

obviously needs a few slates out to be sure... however looking at the second pic the eave slate could well be missing.. look closely roofers

strip a few out and reinstate properly.

if you look at the slate on eave it looks like there's no over hang. that's how a side shot would be good

hi, i couldn't get decent shots of under the lip of the gable end. is there any reason why proper slates haven't been used during previous repairs? being on a gable end, on a hill, at the end of a pennine valley, is this a typical situation where you'd get leaks via wind pushing rain up under slates?
do you suggest that almost all of the slates in the first photo below could do with being realigned/replaced?

i think your render at the bottom of your roof on the gable is loose id have the slate on verge removed from top to bottom any loose render sorted slate put back in with a 50mm overhang over the wall with reclaimed slate to match your roof make sure you ask them to match will make your roof look as if its never been touched its a much better job than shoving in Spanish slate
