Slimy wood

Exterior door damaged by rain getting into the wood.
The wood is now dry, but there's a small area that remains persistently slimy, even though it is hard. I certainly can't push a thumbnail into it.)

Any ideas what can be done about this slimyness as I obviously can't paint the door till it's sorted?

Clean and put out some slug pellets.
