Hi All,

I’ve been rehanging a radiator after decorating and I’ve managed to snap the top off the Lockshield valve (don’t know my own strength!!).

It’s in the closed position so no water flowing but I’m wondering if there’s a way to change the bit that’s snapped off or is it a whole new valve? I know valves aren’t expensive but wondering if I can do it without taking the valve off.

And if I have to replace the valve, do I need to drain the system first or can I just do it as long as I’m quick and over a big bucket!!

Cheers, Rob.

You can still open it with a pair of grips onto the shaft,or replace after dropping pressure assuming it’s a pressurised system

Are you on a pressured system or gravity fed system?

I am not a plumber, but you seem to have push fit connections.

You may be able to let some pressure out and whack on a put fit elbow (with the valve already connected).

Personally, I would drain it down. But as I said, I am not a plumber. Be advised that the water in the pipes might be dirty. Bin bags are waterproof though.

It’s a pressurised system.

I was leaning towards draining the system down. I’m not a plumber either so I worry I’d end up with water everywhere and not be able to stop it!,

Just open the valve that missing bit won't make any difference at all
