Hi all,

I am having a new kitchen installed and prior to everything being done I want to run the cables and put the junction box's in etc for the electrics.

The question I have however is this... Is there any regulations that dictate that a socket has to be a certain distance from the hob? If so, what is that distance?

thanks!

Not in the gas regs. Distance from a gas pipe to a socket must be >=150mm.
Try the electrical forum?

No set distance but a recommendation of 300mm is given in the electricians guide to the building regs.

That's the distance to a consumer units and meters, not sockets. The distance to electricity cables is min 25mm, preferably at least 50mm. If less than 25mm then gas pipe should be insulated.

My guess is that a wall socket should not be within 50mm of a line extended back from the hob edge to the wall. Common sense would suggest greater clearance where possible, just to keep cables away from flames.
