we have just had a brand new set of stairs made and fitted and three of the stairs on the lower wind really squeak. The stairs wer made of pine. The carpenter said this will stop with age! surely we shouldnt have to put up with squeaky stairs?
Have look underneath if you can and see if the wedges are in tight (should be glue as well, not always ) If not, tap it in with a hammer for tightness. Check there are corner blocks, if not put some in with glue. Get someone to stand on the thread to see if you can locate the noise, if everything is in good order then a plywood with screw & glue under the thread will help and if you cannot get under the stairs, the only way is to drill holes and countersunk into the tread above the riser and screw it down into the riser then wood filler the screw heads. Sometime you can get away with running glue in the entire corner joint then lets it dried
