Starting out help

A few pages found on a search for 'electricity tutorial' on Google...

http://www.swansontec.com/set.htm
http://www.1728.com/project2.htm
http://www.1728.com/project3.htm
http://http.cs.berkeley.edu/~randy/Courses/CS39C.S97/telegraph/electricity.html
http://serp.la.asu.edu/CoursePage/Electricity/ElectFra.html

They might give you a place to start. Often what beginners want is to know what questions to ask. These pages might raise more questions for you than answers, but that's not a bad thing.

Books:

Electrical Installation Work - Brian Scaddan - Newnes
Basic/Advanced Electrical Installation Work - Trevor Linsley - Newnes

Waterstones branches stock both of these; they contain all the theory you'll need for the C & G courses, but ask your college if they have a recommended course textbook.

Best of luck

nice to see a bit of positive advice starting to flow now! Good luck to you, as has been said before, a man who asks a question is a fool for thirty seconds, a man who does not ask the question is a fool for the rest of his life.

Yes i am trying to be ready for when i start, trying to learn a little so i can understand better when class's start and i don't look so dim when i don't know what there talking about like earth loop impedance i have no clue i know it must be something to do with all the earths in the sockets/lights switchs etc and the earth circuit but thats it :( So im looking for help with these basic thing's. Stuff also like ohms law guide and how touching a neutral wire will not give you a shock but touching a live will... all these kind of thing's i know that once in class all will be explained but im trying to get some sort of idea before i start so's that i can learn quicker in class and not fall behind and do well in exams

Thanks again for you replys

dont worry bout knowin nothin in the first year of an apprenticeship. they go over everything in great detail for those who dont understand. pretty borin for me ATM since i already kno how a lighting circuit works. but there are some in my group who get easily confused when they dont have a twin coloured cable for the switch... im the only 1 in the group who has actually had experience with electrics. most ppl didnt kno how 2 wire a socket!
