sugarsoap or detergent

What is the magic ingredient in sugarsoap as opposed to just using detergent ?

I need to prepare walls and woodwork and was just thinking of using diluted washing up liquid or diluted stardrops.

The thing is with sugar soap is that it doesnt leave any residue and can be painted over when dry. Flash is also very good for this. Stardrops is a very good degreaser but needs to be rinsed off with clean water after.
