Hi All, I currently have 8 x 2 joists with 16" centers spanning 5m with a non load bearing wall at 3.4 meters. Across a 3.2m span at third intervals the joists are 8 x 3. Above is a Bathroom and en-suite with thermolite dividing wall and a landing. I understand that taking out this wall will make the length of 5m too much for the 8 x 2 joists and a supporting beam will have to be inserted. I am proposing a 150 x 150 C24 beam to do the job spanning 3.4m (including support) to be put in place where the wall comes out.

Is this going to be ok or will I need stoger or bigger timber for the job?

Many Thanks in advance

Clear as mud
but it seems you are removing the non-load bearing wall mentioned in your first sentence, are are considering replacing it with the proposed beam?

Can you upload a photo/sketch?

So the "non-load bearing wall" that supports the upper floor joists.. well that makes it load bearing.. yer clear as mud

So your removing a wall, which supports the upper floor joists part way across the 5m span.. removed section of wall to be 3.2m long..
If thats the case, will a 150x150C24 beam work.. well no
Go for a proper steel beam, get it designed by a professional as well..

Yes that's what we are hoping. The room is currently 3.4 x 3.2, taking out the wall makes it 5.0 x 3.2m. the existing joists run the entire length of the 5.0m they are all spaced the same and two of the joists at 1.2m from outside walls are 8x3.

Sorry have no photos as of yet

that helps...either or... and no specifics.
Oh hello Grrraint, I see you've popped up from under your bridge :D .

It does help though...it tells the OP that he's got more than one option...
And I thought specifics were what got your back up the most?
