Hi we have a dripping tap and have old taps with a red & green plug (like a tiddly wink) in the top of the tap which we assume you have to remove to be able to get to the screw which undoes the top replace the washer, but we have tried everything to try to remove it, we have tried with scissors and a knife but it won't budge, all that happens is that bits of it are chipping off, anyone have any ideas how to remove it?
Thanks

Usually these are indeed a sprung fit, but some actually are screw threaded - and that can be a problem getting the things undone.
Is there any lip on the tap top that you can see to prise, rather than just the actual coloured tiddlywink?

In which case, the top of the tap will probably unscrew - which can be awkward.
Try pressing down on the (dry) tap top wearing a rubber glove, and twisting with your palm anticlockwise. Use the other hand to stop the tap turning on.
Try the other tap too if the first one doesn't play - it will give us some idea. Even a pic could help!
John :)
