So after all of that guff and 15 wasted posts we have to start again.

MCBs are manufactured to conform to a specification BSEN 60898 is usual.

The manufacturer will probably do a random batch sample that the device meets the spec. There isn't much else the regular person, or electrician, can do to test them without specialised equipment.
 
RF, have you tested MK & Electrium MCB's (and others)? Would be good to get some results/stats!

I'd be interested to know how some of the older federal CNA stab-loks do (particually TP breakers with a fault that only involves one gang of the breaker), there is a big thing in the US about breakers which don't trip, no one seems to know for sure whether uk breakers had the same problem, but I'm very wary of them ever since I had some jam (thankfully in the off position)
 
Not only that, BS3871 covers miniature and moulded-case circuit breakers.

AND, it was introduced in 1965.

So there.
