tiling over chased pipework

hi
plumber left a few days ago, been left with chased pipework to shower controls, thermostatic shower. Now he says the tile man will tile over it and we should not be able to see it. alarm bells are ringing here. can any one help. I would think the things need to be plastered over before tiling is that correct? any help thanks.
