Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a standard way to protect the bottom of the old style wooden garage doors from the weather etc?

Currently there is no weather bar and the bottom just shuts against a strip of wood with no foam draft seal or the like.

Cheers,
Carl

you can get an aluminium strip which holds a rubber fin that seals on the floor. You can paint the aluminium to match the door. I also laid a concrete hump on the garage floor that the door closes against.

however with a garage it is important to have the threshold sloping towards the outside, otherwise water will come in.

If yours is a wooden door it really needs a weather bar, and if it is not already rotten, treat the bottom 300mm of the door, inside and out, with several coats of cuprinol wood preserver before you paint or stain it.

It is especially important to soak or treat the underneath surface very thoroughly, not just where you can see..
