Too much pipework?

Hi all.

I am just in process of moving a radiator. Have lifted a few floorboards and am a bit puzzled by pipework layout installed by previous owners. System is indirect.

The picture is layout of first floor pipework, serving 4 rads upstairs.

"B" is where pipework enters first floor, with boiler on ground floor, directly below.

"P" is the pump in airing cupboard (have ommitted cylinder and valve).
"a" is the tee that drops down to first floor to serve another 4 rads.

My initial thought was that the much of pipework marked with dashes was un-necessary, but having thought about it, I see that the rads are connected after the pump.

Would I be correct in thinking that the layout is quite normal, and that I can't connect a radiator between boiler and pump (for instance the rad at bottom right)?

no rads have to be after pump.

the only change i can see that could reduce the pipework is the two rads that are back to back tee one rad off the others flow & return.

but not worth altering just for that.

As above, if you tee off the common return, you will get reverse circulation.
