I have a Vaillant EcoTech Plus boiler, and the bar pressure is around 2.9 (off the scale).

I have read that I will probably need to release some of the water, but am not completely sure how I would go about this - and I didn't want to just try something and completely kill the thing!

Any advice would be great :D

you should have a drainage valve somewhere underneath the boiler. let a bit of water out of that. i you cant find that then alot of the return valves on radiators have drainagetaps on them. Letting water out of these does the same thing. do this when the boiler is off and has the system has had time to cool down to set the pressure accurately to approx 1.2-1.5bar.

There may be a reason for your pressure being way up there...read up on the section in FAQ about expansion vessles. sounds like yours has gone flat or burst unless you happen to have over filled your system by mistake or your tap on you filling loop is passing

Safest way is to bleed it form a rad if you are not totally sure. Takes a bit longer to do half a litre this way, but hard to go wrong.

Bleed your radiators, or drain off from there. if not use the `blow off`

( pressure release valve).

Thanks guys.

I've switched the boiler off and will bleed the rads as underneath the boiler looks a little bit confusing for a "know-nothing" like me

Appreciate the assistance! :D

Use the blow off,God help us

keep your eye on the boiler pressure to see if it rises again as then you know there is a prob and get a CORGI to have a look
