I've used them for about 20 years, they are extremely quiet (sometime you get one that buzzes as it shuts, email the manufacturers and they will post you a modified part)
they are quite prone to grid or scale, in which case you dismantle and wash in clean water. I have only ever had that happen after working on the supply pipe or cold tank. When fitting one, let the pipe gush for a minute or so first to wash out any loose particles. There is a tiny stainless pin that goes through the white grommet in the black diaphragm. You will need a torch to see it.
It is often said that the newer Fluidmasters are more reliable.
