We need a two-way alarm system for use in separate bedrooms to communicate or raise an alarm in the event of a night time medical emergency. We previously bought a battery operated door type, but this proved unreliable as the batteries went down unnoticed, and often failed to respond when pressed anyway.

Can anyone recommend a system which would fit the bill? Many thanks.

As my husband is a bit deaf anyway, then I think a loud alarm would be advisable. Thanks for replying.

Would the sort of thing used for disabled toilets be suitable

mains powered, battery back up
If you could say exactly what you want the system to do we could perhaps suggest something

Basically, we are sleeping in two separate adjoining bedrooms, both opening into the hallway. We both have heart problems and it is my fear that if either of us awoke in difficulty and was unable to get out of bed to summon help, then there should be some way of waking the other with an alarm. I would probably hear my husband if he called loudly, but I am sure he wouldn't hear me!

I looked at the disabled toilet alarms, but don't really fancy dangling cords over the beds....

OK.

Simple system:

2 x bells or buzzers eg http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/VE182.html
2 x bell pushes eg http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/VE814.html
1 x mains transformer eg http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/VE753.html

Drawback - no system monitoring, no latching i.e. buzzer only sounds when button is pressed

The above suggested disabled toilet alarm system can be used with wall mounted call buttons instead of the pull cord eg
http://www.amazon.co.uk/TC398-SERIES-NC917L-STANDARD-PROTRUDING/dp/B00FH3MJZE

You can also get call buttons on a cable to loop over a bedhead etc.

so 2 of the wall call buttons, 1 in each room, and 2 of the following light/sounders, again 1 in each room
http://www.amazon.co.uk/TC396-SERIES-NC806CS-OVERDOOR-SOUNDER/dp/B00FJ19Y9I/

System reset would be carried out from the control box eg in the hall. This prevents someone ignoring or resetting the alarm and going back to sleep (they have to get out of bed)

Advantages - system monitored, power supply backup in the event of mains failure - up to 24 hrs stand-by and 15 mins alarm running time.

C-TEC stuff is widely available, just check with the seller before buying that this controller will support 2 additional light/sounders.

Thank you so much for your research on our behalf. We will investigate the options you suggest and definitely choose one of them. We appreciate your time spent on this.
