Hi

Our UPVC front door cill/external step has recently been damaged by some buildings works. The builders said they would get someone to replace it but they would need to take out the door , replace the cill and then reinstall the door

Can someone familiar with doors please tell me if

- It is a straightforward job ? Removing the door, replacing the cill and reinstall the door without damaging the door or surroundings

- Do we need to FENSA registered installer in this case , since it is effectively reinstalling of the door (albeit the same one) . Would it affect our FENSA warranty or FENSA certificate if done by someone not registered?

Thanks!

Alex

Getting the door out without damaging any render or internal plaster is very unlikely ( depending how far behind the reveals it is ) ... will also depend how long its been in as to whether the fixings want to release from the wall.

As you are using the original do you will not need a Fensa registered fitter ... It will not afect the original certificate BUT as you state it may affect any warranty you have on the door ( Unlikely to be a Fensa warranty ...maybe a third party insurance backed warranty , along with original installers warranty . ) ...best to check with the warranty company

you can cut the face off a new cill and glue over if not too damaged also you can get covers cill but they dont look to good

Need photos really. If it was built into the house (rendered and plastered) then its not coming out without damage.

How bad is the cill damage? There are specialist repair companys that can fill and re-finish PVC
