Can anyone offer any advice on gear box selectors. I am sure mine is on the way out. Can access 3rd, 4th , 5th and reverse ok but struggle with 1st and often have to avoid 2nd all together. How much is this likely to cost to repair at a garage. Not looking for accuracy just ball park figure. i.e £100 plus, £200plus etc.

before spending money out on a new box, have you checked the gear linkage to the box is alligned correctly, i'd check that before the actual selectors
Thanks for the advice Dave. I have since had my car repaired. Despite my concerns the repair job was very quick. The gear selector had dropped and was no longer able to select the correct gears. The drop was due to wear and tear of a plastic part. The selector was repaired by realigning the selector. In short this cost a lot less time and money than a complete gear box replacement.
